Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion

What is it?

Diamond microdermabrasion machines usually come with tipped wands of varied size and coarseness for different skin types and depths of resurfacing, operating without the need for crystals. The wand tip is made of natural diamond chips which polish the skin and remove dead cells, which are then vacuumed back into a waste filter. Many professionals prefer natural diamond tips because they are easier to control and don’t irritate the skin (natural minerals are less likely to trigger adverse reactions).

The wand’s diamond tips gently abrade and exfoliate the skin and minimize the appearance of age spots and enlarged pores by removing dead skin cells. The vacuum effect of microdermabrasion stimulates blood circulation throughout the face, facilitating collagen and elastin cell production and producing softer, younger-looking skin.

How does it work?

Microdermabrasion is a gentle exfoliation that is performed with a diamond-encrusted applicator tip.  The tip passes over the skins surface, and creates a gentle vacuum.  The diamond tip gently exfoliates approximately 20-25 microns of dead skin cells of the outermost layer (stratum corneum).  Once removed, it reveals one’s own fresher, younger looking skin beneath. One Microdermabrasion is equal to three 30% glycolic peels or one 70% peel.

Why are Microdermabrasions beneficial?

Approximately every 26-28 days our body creates a new layer of skin. As new cells form they push their way to the surface and then dead cells settle on the surface. As we age this process slows down leading to the appearance of older skin with less radiance.

Not exfoliating dead skin cells can cause enlarged & clogged pores, a bumpy uneven texture, and a dull appearance. Microdermabrasion abrades the outer layer of the skin (about 10-20 microns of skin cells). This layer is only made of dead skin cells which is why this procedure is not considered to be invasive.

How many treatments does it take?

Just like having a consistent healthy diet & exercising, microdermabrasion has the noticeable results done on a continuous and regular basis. The best results are obtained after 6 to 12 sessions (depending on your expectations and severity of skin imperfections.)

Who is an ideal candidate for Microdermabrasion?

Everyone – men and women of any skin type or color.

Skin that is aging, congested, flaky, dry, devitalized, thickened, blemished, dull and sun damaged can be rejuvenated and refreshed. Blotchiness, uneven skin tones and texture will also be improved. Even normal skin can be made to look fresher with a warm glow.

Does it help with Acne scarring?

By removing the top layer of the skin, professional micro abrasion diminishes or even removes superficial acne scarring. Deeper acne scarring require a more invasive procedure, like a deep chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing. Consult with your dermatologist for severe cases.
